Redrum.

I have started getting "Fall Preview" emails from my online shopping havens and that makes me happier than Disneyland. I loathe summer. The heat. The bugs. The sweat. But I digress...
Fall and winter are the two reasons I live through spring and summer. The first day it is cool enough to wear a turtleneck is like my birthday. Cold-weather fashion (ironically) smokes its hot-weather counterparts. Keep your spandex bathing suit and tank tops - I'll take the cashmere, please. Food is more dense and comforting. Drinks trade the percussion of ice cubes for the mystery of a swath of steam. And the colors are richer. Reds become bloody and bricky.Yes! Which brings me to the point of this post - red lips for fall. Glory be to whomever sets these trends, because this is my favorite each time it comes back around.

we're jamming...

I am currently expoliting my new-found affinity for canning. How we are going to eat this much jelly, I have not a clue (especially if I don't start practicing biscuit-making pronto.) This past Saturday, I made black-and-blueberry jam, strawberry-fig jam and jalapeno jelly. I have come to love cooking and canning, especially after the tasty fig concoction I made during first Saturday's jam session, of which we have already consumed two jars! Perhaps I could start a one man jam revolution. Invent new jar shapes. Create couture-inspired lables. Incite millions to pick up a whisk and start jamming, Memaw-style.

This is how it all starts. Blackberries and blueberries nearing the revolution.

Sugared. Boiling. Totally the hotness.

Post jar-filling dregs.

Processing in the water bath.

in the beginning...

I have decided to start blogging to document the quirky goings-on in my head and how they affect my life. I have a million and one interests. I am a Methodist who practices the Rosary. I am an enthusiastic scratch cook. I love art and music and a w-i-d-e variety of both. I believe that the man is the head of the household. I should live somewhere that is cold year-round. I would dress like my life was an episode of Mad Men every day if the heat in Texas wasn't so...hot. I subscribe to Nietzsche's philosophy that "politics devours all seriousness for really intellectual things." ee cummings is my favorite poet. Fargo is my favorite movie. Black is my favorite color. I want my chocolate bitter and my coffee blond. I love Art Deco, Machine-Age and Mid-Century design and also think Miles Redd is genius. New Orleans and Chicago are two of my favorite places on earth. Won't you be my neighbor?
